Introducing a child to the Devil May Cry series

Hello everyone who decided to get acquainted with this work. I decided to experiment and write an article (it is available in the format of a review of the game on Steam, but there is a lot of text for the review, so I decided to publish it here after a long time. I like this site. Essentially, I’m doing what was needed to work in this format).

Also, I wanted my text to be written quite literary, but I have little experience in this kind of thing, so I will be glad if there are interesting comments where knowledgeable people can write how such a work can be decorated so that it reads pleasantly and looks beautiful, I will analyze.

This text will describe the personal experience of a person’s acquaintance with the Devil May Cry series of games. Among those reading, there may be people who also have something to remember from their acquaintance with this series of games, or any other. After reading the article you can compare your experience with mine. It’s still interesting how differently people experience moments that are important to them.
I’ll go through quite briefly the 1st, 3rd, 4th and 5th games in the series. All work is more aimed at sensory experiences, rather than at a dry, objective assessment of the game.

Devil May Cry

I love the DmC series. From https://nuttybingocasino.uk/mobile-app/ the very first part (I didn’t play the second one). I met a white-headed guy when I was 7 years old. At that moment I was very familiar with games, and started with SEGA. Over time I got a PS2. Grandfather worked as a security guard in a CD store and could buy them cheap. In general, there were a lot of games and all of different quality. However, then, it was the first part of DmC that stuck in my memory, it was the first game that I remembered so well. I became attached to both her and the main character.
I love this game: for the mood, at that moment still a little inspired by Resident Evil (only later did I find out that initially RE4 was supposed to take the place of DmC); for the still a little pretentious and only a little crazy Dante (As a child, at the very beginning of the game, I was incredibly amazed by the scene when Dante took the sword out of his chest, after which, without much fuss, he shot the motorcycle in the air), for Trish, a mysterious woman who sided with Dante, despite who she really was and what she was created for. For the very legend about the knight Sparda, told in the game’s intro. And finally, for the nascent combat system, which will later be improved and I really like.

Devil May Cry 3

I really love this part. I also played it in my early childhood. I don’t know how it happened, but a friend accidentally happened to have a disc with the game. The disc was exchanged for "Ghost Rider". What a happy coincidence.
As for the game, it tells Dante’s backstory from the perspective of his girlfriend, whom he has yet to meet. The story tells of the confrontation between two brothers, children of the demon Sparda. Both have problems: one cannot accept the demon within himself, the other cannot accept human weakness. However, by the end of the game, the characters’ progress is visible, but not everything is so rosy: Dante has accepted his demonic side and the great responsibility that comes with great power; on the other hand, Virgil, on the contrary, was not ready to accept the person in himself. I think that the final battle between the brothers just confirms this point of view.
I also fell in love with DmC3: for the wonderful music, for the transformed combat system (it became very fun to take out hordes of demons, while style points motivate you to do it beautifully), for the very story of two brothers. And so, the series began to become more and more firmly entrenched in the subcortex, becoming a part of me. Starting from the third part, I began to notice that I associated a certain game composition with it (it will be the same with subsequent parts). Devils never Cry – to this day reminds me of this wonderful game, when I hear this track, goosebumps involuntarily begin to run down my skin.

Devil May Cry 4

By this time I had a laptop at home, but it was quite weak. When my mother brought me the game disc, I was delighted, but I was very afraid that the laptop would not play the game. But he pulled. There were probably 20 frames, but I pulled it off. What was my disappointment when in the first half of the game they let me play not as Dante, but as some nameless guy copied from Dante. The guy behaves like an idiot and constantly tries to look cooler than he is, although he doesn’t succeed very well. But I also became attached to Nero (that’s his name). Yes, he shows off a lot, it looks a little ridiculous, but he’s a good guy with potential. I still remember the feelings that I experienced: when, with all the gigantism of the situation, Nero, with his HUGE hand, smashed the HUGE head of a HUGE statue and it crashed to the ground with a roar.
With the advent of Nero, new mechanics appeared in the game, the main ones being the grip with a demonic hand and the ability to charge the accelerator of the sword (by the way, the sword with an internal combustion engine was made by the boy himself), not to mention another moveset, techniques, etc.d.
When they let me play as Dante I was very happy. Finally managed to return to him after Troika (after, probably, 5 years). In this part he has become much older (at least it seems so), but is still not averse to showing off himself and making fun of Nero, due to his inexperience. But Dante still has some mentoring feelings in front of Nero, he sees in him a kindred spirit, and for a reason.
Dante, as before, is played as dynamically as possible. Even more dynamic, because, starting with the Four, he was given the opportunity to use all the weapons from the arsenal and change styles in real time. More and more often I want to play perfectly so that the inscription SSS flies out onto the screen.
I associate with the fourth part the song from the intro, which Kyrie sings – Out of Darkness, but there is also a second track – Shall never surrender.

Lyrical pause 10 years long.

Now, until 2018, I remember the DmC series with warmth in my soul, but I am content with only these very memories. I went through all the parts several times: I liked the gameplay and new difficulty levels opened there after completing the previous one. Starting from the third difficulty level, which opens after the 1st playthrough of the game, more and more opponents from the late stage of the game creep into the early stage. By the time of the 3rd difficulty, most, if not all, skills are already available. Play becomes more interesting.

And now – the announcement of part 5 in 2018. Memories flare up with renewed vigor, but… I have nothing to play on. I have a laptop again, albeit stronger than the previous one, but the equipment is from 2012. At the moment the laptop was frankly weak. I can’t watch this game on YouTube. These games are close to me, they gave me personal experiences and, frankly speaking, I don’t want to share them with anyone. I’m studying at university and I’m given the opportunity with an increased scholarship to save up for new equipment and build my own PC.
2019 – I saved up, selected components, assembled it. By this point I had cooled down a little on the game, but I seized the moment and bought.

Devil May Cry 5

I started the game. On the main screen you could see the history of previous parts. I chose this item… And… here, I heard my favorite tracks from the previous parts: against the background of this music, everything stirred up again, emotions overwhelmed me in one big stream. I walked around the room and realized that I had not experienced SUCH feelings from games for a very long time, since 2013. I didn’t believe that this could happen to me, but I was very happy about it, incredibly happy. I finished watching the story and started the game. The signature presentation has been preserved. The heroes have a new design, but on the new engine they look magical.
What I noticed: This part has a rather complex plot structure, in the spirit of some Tarantino films. I liked it and I won’t say that it was unnecessary. New heroes have been added and old ones have changed: V – a mysterious poetic guy with his skeletons; Nero has changed a lot since Part 4 and I liked his changes: he has become more mature, more responsible, but he has not lost himself and his humor is also fine here; And finally, Niko is the pearl of this game, an inventor, a girl with an explosive character and the owner of a crazy accent. She kills this game, literally.
The gameplay has not changed much since part 4, but everything has become more beautiful and colorful. New types of weapons and new mechanics have been added, such as pets for V or prosthetics for Nero. Prosthetics allow you to build more diverse combos (speaking of combos: this game, like others, has a developed combo system, but there is a main tool – the mechanics of bouncing off the enemy, which allows you to keep him in the air (jumpcancel)). In general, the game is becoming more and more enjoyable.
Now, with this game, I will be associated with the song Put my Devil Trigger, which also sunk into my soul (in general, its style has been changed in comparison with the previous parts – the song has more electronic motifs, but it is still made and written very well).

The game contains a large number of references to previous parts, and there is quite a bit of fan service. I used to think that this was bad for any product. Not now. After I beat the game, after the euphoria I received (over the last 6 years I haven’t felt this even from good games), I don’t think so anymore. I’m happy for this game. I’m glad I beat this game myself. I’m glad that the memories of this series were supplemented with new ones after DmC5. That I was able to relive what happened in childhood. This is my personal experience and it is part of me.
P.s. I also feel very good about the game – a reboot of the DmC: Devil may Cry series. I think it’s also well made. There are some good stylized tracks, a serious approach to history and good presentation. Plays nice too, but a little easier.
